Facilities Projects

Holy Family University is currently undergoing a number of exciting facilities projects at our Northeast Philadelphia campus. Please check back frequently for the latest updates.

Traffic Pattern Change at Grant Avenue

11/26 - 12/1/24 Grant Ave Entrance Closed

The entrance to Alpha House off of Grant Avenue will be closed from Tuesday, November 26 through Sunday, December 1. The entrance will reopen on Monday, December 2. The normal exit lane from Alpha House to Grant Avenue will become a one-way entrance. Motorists will not be able to exit onto Grant Avenue.

Parents dropping off and picking up children at Alpha House and Aquinas Hall will enter campus through the normal exit lane on Grant Avenue. Parents will then turn right at the Library, proceed through the faculty parking lot, make a left turn onto Stevenson Lane and exit the campus at Frankford Avenue.

Holy Family students, faculty, staff and campus visitors will enter campus at Frankford Avenue and Stevenson Lane. There will be NO EXIT onto Grant Avenue for any motorists during this time.

All Community members should be prepared for increased traffic and congestion on campus until the Grant Avenue entrance reopens.

Frankford Avenue Sidewalk Closure

Frankford Avenue Sidewalk Closed Starting 12/01/24

The sidewalk along the Holy Family University side of Frankford Avenue from Grant Avenue to Stevenson Lane will be closed beginning Sunday, December 1. The walkway is expected to be closed until mid-January for curb and sidewalk replacement. Work will begin at the corner of Grant and Frankford Avenues and proceed to the entrance at Stevenson Lane and Frankford Avenue.

Pedestrians are asked to use the walkway on the opposite end of Frankford Avenue between Grant Avenue and Stevenson Lane during construction. There will also be temporary lane and shoulder restrictions at times on Frankford Avenue.

In the event the contractor does not complete the curb and sidewalk replacement by December 16, the contractor will pause work on Frankford Avenue and shift to the main campus entrance. In this scenario, work will resume on Frankford Avenue once heavy demolition and construction is completed at the University’s main entrance.

All construction projects are subject to weather conditions. All closures will follow PennDOT’s prescribed plan.

November 18 to November 28

On November 18, contractors will begin demolishing the curb and sidewalk on Grant Avenue from the entrance between the Library and Alpha House to the corner of Grant and Frankford Avenues.

From November 18 to November 28, the sidewalk running along the Holy Family University side of Grant Avenue will be closed. The Grant Avenue walking gate between the Library and Education and Technology Center (ETC) will also be closed. Pedestrians will not be able enter the campus through the walking gate during this time.

There will be signs directing pedestrian traffic to walk along the opposite side of Grant Avenue and to enter and exit the campus along the road running between the Library and Alpha House. Traffic entering and exiting Alpha House and Aquinas will not be affected. Temporary lane and shoulder restrictions on Grant Avenue may occur at times.

A new concrete curb will be installed during this project. The walkway will reopen as a compacted stone path until final paving is scheduled. Areas may be covered with steel plates until final paving occurs.

All construction is subject to weather conditions, and closures will follow PennDOT's prescribed plan.

December 2024

During the week of December 16, the entrance to the University at Stevenson Lane is scheduled to be closed. During this closure, community members can enter the Northeast Philadelphia campus via the driveway between the Library and Alpha House, and exit the campus through the drive that passes by Alpha House. Improvements are being made to the driveway passing by Alpha House so there will be two lanes of traffic. The left lane of the driveway will be for left turns only, and the right lane only for right turns. Public Safety officers will be on hand during the times when traffic flow is changed to aid with vehicle flow and safety.
